A note from the founder

Updated: Mar 26, 2024

My name is Mirriam Maina. I am a Kenyan software engineer in London, United Kingdom. I have been a software engineer for a couple of years now, working with some big technology firms. In this time, I have realized that there is a huge gap between the Kenyan education system and the tech market. I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, which equipped me adequately for the job market in Kenya, but it was inadequate for a role in an international market.

If I do it now, unprepared as I am, it it still my best

It was not until I met some of my most treasured mentors that I discovered what was required of an engineer in international big tech. Had it not been for someone who made this information privy to me, I would not be where I am in my career. Tech Leap initiative is an extrapolation of what my mentors did for me. I intend to pass on what I have learned to every tech professional in Africa; to give them a chance to share their excellence with the world. At one of the companies I worked for, Andela Limited(https://andela.com/), the "motto" was "Brilliance is evenly distributed, but opportunity is not". I cannot think of a way to even out opportunity, than by equipping everyone with the necessary skills to get it when it shows up. I hope that Tech Leap Initiative becomes everything I hope it will be.
